Sanuki Udon Toronto is a casual Japanese restaurant tucked into the busy Carlton Street corridor, known for focusing on Sanuki-style udon—a regional specialty from Japan’s Kagawa prefecture. This spot is tailored for anyone craving a comforting bowl of thick, chewy handmade noodles paired with broths and toppings that strike a balance between homey and refined.

The dining room feels modest and cozy, making it suitable for low-key lunches or relaxed dinners with friends. Regulars often come during weekday afternoons or early evenings when the place hums quietly with the steady rhythm of people enjoying a warm meal after work or study. College and university students nearby, including those at Toronto Metropolitan University, seem drawn here for both the approachable prices and the welcoming vibe.

The food leans heavily on hearty udon bowls that highlight robust broths and quality proteins. Favorites include the Nagoya Style Beef Maze Udon, which blends minced beef, onsen egg, and seaweed with a savory soy sauce, as well as options featuring premium A7 Wagyu beef and various tempura sides. Those who appreciate texture will find the noodles notably chewy, a defining feature of authentic Sanuki udon, though on busier nights the noodles can run softer depending on timing. Many diners enjoy pairing their meal with Calpico, a Japanese soft drink that complements the savory flavors well.

Service at Sanuki Udon tends to be friendly and attentive without being overbearing, which suits the unpretentious surroundings. The owner’s presence is often noted as a warm touch, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. The interior is functional rather than flashy, with seating designed for smaller groups or solo diners, and accommodations for families are modest but available.

Overall, this spot appeals to those who want an authentic taste of Japan’s udon culture without leaving downtown Toronto. It’s best for casual dates, study sessions interrupted by hearty food, or catching up with friends over a satisfying bowl and crispy tempura. Timing a visit on a weekday rather than peak weekend hours can enhance the experience, offering a quieter setting to savor the layers of flavor in each dish.

Got the lunch special $16.99 for this angus beef bowl udon. Udon texture was perfectly chewy and broth was delicious. Beef was tasty but had a lot of fatty pieces and I wish the egg was a bit less runny. Overall, delicious and service was great!

I go here at least once a week with my roommates— the udon is an absolute blast! Having tried most of the items on the menu I’d recommend the cold udon with beef/pork, curry uson (with chicken katsu.. is incredibly good). The staffs are incredibly kind and the entire place is such a vibe! Great for casual dates and going out with friends — love the owner Yuna :)! If you’re also from TMU there’s a lunch deal, and super close to campus ^-^

Authentic flavours and great service. The udon noodles were a bit overcooked, but the broth flavour made up for it. They only have one high chair available, but they were accommodating and very friendly.

I had the beef fried rice and it was delicious. The rice has some eggs and was delightfully flavourful. Not sure if they added anything in it, but it was delicious. The beef was tasty, but could have been a bit more tender, or sliced into smaller pieces. But overall absolutely lovely meal. Thank you

I ordered the Angus beef udon, the Signature Sanuki Style, and it was perfect. The beef was so tender. The soup was so delicious, I didn’t need to do any seasoning at all. The waiter was so nice. The chef was so nice. The atmosphere was so nice. Everything was so perfect. This place is recommended!! Gotta come back again.
